The reading and understanding of Indigenous literatures are crucial to Indigenous-settler relations in this country. Indigenous voices have important messages to convey and nowhere is this more apparent than in Indigenous children's literature. Children are at the centre of the circle in every single Indigenous community. Join Nancy Cooper as she discusses the importance of Indigenous children's literature in Canada today.
Nancy is a Two-Spirited woman from the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. Born and raised throughout Northern Ontario, Nancy currently lives in Toronto with her family. She is the author of two children's books, The Trading Tree and Biindigen! Amik Says Welcome. She is currently working on her third, fourth, and fifth children's books, due out in 2025/2026.

As a parent, you get advice about parenting and healthy child development from an RECE, Early Literacy Specialist, a Developmental Consultant, and a Public Health Nurse.

Drop-in to the Acton or Georgetown branch to learn more about community-based services for women and their children who are experiencing abuse, including support, community referrals, safety planning and crisis counselling.

We use stories, songs, and puppets to create a fun focus on literacy, numeracy, patterning and other early learning concepts where kids can see and meet other kids.
Please note that food and drinks are not permitted in the program room.
All children under 10 require an adult to remain in the Library throughout the duration of a program.
