Halton Hills Lecture Series: Artificial Intelligence & Everyday Life Adult

This is a ticketed event. Tickets are obtained through the John Elliott Theatre Box Office.

Join Amanda Tkaczyk for a talk on artificial intelligence (AI) and the foundations for developing your AI literacy skills. Using examples from across the world, Tkaczyk discuss the ways AI is shaping our lives from food to fashion, in addition to how AI can be used for good and how AI can create ethical and environmental harms. Attendees will learn about popular tools and emerging trends in this quickly changing field.

Amanda Tkaczyk is an award-winning educator who is passionate about co-designing meaningful experiences. In addition to nearly a decade of professional IT experience, Amanda is a Certified Information Privacy Professional - Canada and completed her Master of Management in Artificial Intelligence (MMAI) in 2021.

This program is offered in partnership with CFUW-Georgetown.

Do you like to write? Do you like to make stories? Are you interested in making a choose your own adventure story? If any of the above interest you, you’re in luck! Join us for a digital storytelling workshop with Twine, which is a open source digital tool for creating non-linear stories, games, and more! From character sketch to final product, you'll create a playable story of your own!

Research Your Family History with Ancestry Adult

Explore your family history using Ancestry Library Edition. Learn how to search census records, immigration lists, birth, marriage & death records, and more. At this hands-on workshop, you'll receive an overview of record collections and search strategies for using Ancestry Library Edition.

The presentation will be followed with workshop time for you to conduct your own searches with staff assistance.

Bring your own laptop or borrow one of ours.

Book Buzz Children

Calling all avid readers! We will meet at the Library once a month to discuss some fantastic books and do fun activities. This program is intended for children in grades 5-7.

AFTER YOU REGISTER, THE FIRST BOOK WILL BE PLACED ON HOLD FOR YOU TO PICK UP AT THE LIBRARY BRANCH OF YOUR CHOICE.

The program will be held in the Georgetown Branch Program Room.

Registration opens on November 28th at 1:30 pm and closes on May 5th at 5:00 pm.

Explore the Forest of Reading Children

Audience: Children ages 4-11

Drop-in to the library for a variety of activities about the Forest of Reading nominees. Each week there will be fun activities that highlight one of the 10 nominees from each of the Forest of Reading Festival Awards.

Maker Meet-Up Children

Fee: $40 for materials.

Explore your creativity and learn a new hobby in this crafting program! Each week we'll explore and create a different type of handmade craft, including felting, Cricutting, beading, and more. No experience is needed.

KinderPrep Early Years

This is a registered program.

Register once for this 8-week session. Tuesday mornings from 10-10:30 throughout April and May.

Children aged 3 & 4 years are encouraged to attend on their own while their adults remain in the adjacent area. We use stories, songs, and puppets to create a fun focus on literacy, numeracy, patterning and other early learning concepts where kids can see and meet other kids.

Registration opens on Tuesday, February 27th at 9:30 a.m.

Please note that food and drinks are not permitted in the program room.

All children under 9 require an adult to remain in the Library throughout the duration of a program.
